Lesvos

The island of Lesvos (why do we call it Lesbos?) is my very first taste of Greece and the Greek Islands. It feels kind of familiar because I have had contact and dealings with Greek people in Australia for 45 years.
I barely arrived a day ago so it is still wait and see. It is hot! Swimming weather for sure, had my first swim this afternoon. Must now go and have dinner by the harbour front.

Marble-ous treasures

All museums have their treasures but maybe some have too many! The Archaeological Museum here in Istanbul has a brain overload abundance of treasures and things I never know existed So so much but here are just a very tiny glimpse. There was of course a thousand non-marble wonders but I like these photos and photography was difficult in some sections. And when do you stop!?!

These coffins on the last photo are from Syria I think. Very different!

Istanbul sights

Istanbul is so modern yet still retains an exotic feel and is full of history and atmosphere. Turks seem to make up the majority of visitors here not us foreigners. Lots of images and sights race before your eyes every minute you are here, including the cats of course!

Carpet Kittens

Some kittens playing in the window of a carpet shop in Istanbul. They are safely behind glass.

Istanbul

What!?! I willingly spent about $30 on dinner last night!?! Crazy but true. But I had a great meal including the wildly delicious desert in the photo, I sat in the cool of the evening in a pleasant outdoor restaurant and I was just a metre away from the artists in the video. The mystery and exoticness of the Swirling Dervish and the craftmanship of the two very talented musicians. I may well go tonight as well but I will take a chance and order some other unknown desert surprise.

Koprivshtitsa

Koprivshtitsa was a lovely quiet village with a lot of character and a large portion of the population are involved in agriculture. Mostly on a small scale and there seems to be a strong desire to stick with tried and true methods, and horses and wagons.

Georgia. The country that is

Here’s Ian waiting for a bus in Sofia, Bulgaria. It’s the 5th of July and on the 8th I fly to Tisblisi, Georgia for the next part of this adventure. Today I am going to a small village up in some hills and who knows what trouble I’ll get into in Georgia! Internet access is a constant annoyance, wonderful when it is convenient but frustrating when it can’t be had. This combined with good travel makes blogging a problem and I expect it to be difficult for several weeks to come. SORRY!!!
